What is the The Functional Movement Screen? (FMS)

The Functional Movement Screen is a movement based system that can quickly help you identify your current basic level of mobility, stability and motor-control. The Functional Movement Screen provides a consistent and reliable testing method to help identify your readiness for physical activity or exercise. Furthermore, it can will help you identity the most important areas you need to work on to improve your movement. Therefore by following the FMS corrective exercises, you can start to move towards better movement.

How we use the FMS at Kinect Health

Typically we use the FMS when people come to us wanting to start an exercise or training program because it helps us identify where you currently are. We utilise the FMS traffic light system: Green light means your good to go. Amber light means you need to improve a few areas whilst you train and finally a red light, indicates that you should be more focused on developing mobility, stability and motor-control in readiness for more strenuous activity or a training program.
